Meals on Wheels Tampa: Thanksgiving Food Drive

Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to nourish, enrich and strengthen the lives of our homebound and senior community. They provide daily meals throughout the year, but during the holidays, they go above and beyond for their community so that people in need know they are loved and cared for!

In the Tampa Bay area, Meals on Wheels delivers bags of food, including pies, baked goods, cards and flowers to over 800 households of the elderly, disabled or otherwise homebound on Thanksgiving Day. This extra caring gesture ensures that the community’s seniors feel connected to their neighbors and offers them much-needed social interaction. To Meals on Wheels, they aren’t just delivering hot food to someone in need; they are delivering smiles and a friendly face to those who need it most.

In preparation for yet another successfully charitable Thanksgiving, Meals on Wheels is co-hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive at MacDinton’s Irish Pub in Tampa from November 1-25. They are asking their community members to stop by and donate canned/non-perishable food as well as the following items:

  • Blankets
  • Decks of cards
  • Puzzles
  • Games
  • Books
  • Potholders
  • Small packaged snacks
  • Magnifying glasses
  • Note pads
  • Pens/pencils
  • Non-slip socks
  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Lotion
  • Tissues

During this season of giving, we ask that everyone in the Tampa Bay community helps in any way they can either through monetary contributions, food donations or even volunteering. Meals on Wheels is seeking Thanksgiving Day volunteers to help deliver baked goodies and cards to their homebound community members. View details and apply to be a Meals on Wheels volunteer here.
