Epic Specialty Staffing Observes Cancer Survivor Awareness Month

cancer_survivor_awarenessIn 2020, nearly 2 million people will be diagnosed with a form of cancer in the United States. With breast, lung, and colorectal cancers leading the way, impacting hundreds of thousands of Americans and their families, supporting cancer research is of utmost importance in our united mission to find a cure and end the disease.

At Epic Specialty Staffing, the fight against cancer is one of the closest issues to our hearts. As a medical recruitment firm specializing in radiation oncology staffing and assisting leading cancer centers throughout the country, we have been deeply involved in this conversation for more than twenty years. We consider cancer centers as our partners – and have been driven to connect them with the most qualified and talented medical professionals this nation has to offer.

The month of June is also very special for our organization because it recognizes cancer survivors. Initiated by the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the month of June is dedicated to observing and hearing the stories of survivors who have fought the disease, and those who are currently in treatment.

Survivor Tales

The prevalence of cancer means that it’s likely most of us have been touched by it, in some way or another. So many of us have a cancer story, either first hand or through witnessing and supporting a loved one. When survivors share their stories, hope can become a driving force for those enduring hard times.

Watch Emma’s story –  a little girl whose diagnosis came in the summer after she finished fifth grade.

Watch Bill’s story – a father who was told that his head and neck cancer had spread to his lungs and that with standard treatment had about a year to live. Then, he was offered the opportunity to enroll in a clinical drug trial testing.

The Future

Due to advancements in cancer research, there are currently nearly 17 million people in the United States who are cancer survivors living with and conquering through the disease. With everyone’s help, we may be able to find solutions that help everyone, like Bill and Emma.

To support the fight against cancer, consider making a donation to the AACR, who helps more than 45,000 members worldwide to progress research against the disease. You may donate by visiting this website.
